Name: Poseidon
Age: Four years (fall of 2016)
Gender: Male
Genetics: [German Shorthaired Pointer] x [German Shorthaired Pointer]
Pack: Loner for now
Personality: Arrogant / Confident. Poseidon carries himself highly--his body radiating the confidence from within him. Even his natural stride displays this, with his strong gate and sure footing. With this natural ability, he has no problem getting others to believe in him, as he certainly believes in himself. It does come off as arrogance to some, but Poseidon does not care. Let them think what they want. He is not afraid to be himself and will not let the presence of others change his behavior. Because of his sureness, Poseidon rarely plans things out before jumping in. Usually, he works on his impulses, finding his own way through problems. It is reckless, and he knows it, but so far his logic has not failed him (much, at least).
Charismatic. This pointer is a suave boy. He loves reeling others in with his charm, watching them fall under his spell. There is something about him that is hard to deny. Maybe it is his walk or how he speaks, or the gleam that constantly resides in his amber gaze. Even if others hate him, which is very much possible, he still possesses this pull that is difficult to ignore. Along with this, he really likes females. Never would he overstep boundaries, but if a lady plays along with his game, he will make it worth her time. Poseidon can be very flirtatious, but surprisingly, he would rather go bother a female with a fun personality over a pretty face. (The pretty face can be an added bonus.)
Empathetic. Rather than being sympathetic, Poseidon has a natural ability to relate to others. That does not mean he will mirror their emotions, it just means he knows how to handle a situation because he knows how his subject is feeling. No, there are no mind readings going on, but Poseidon is particularly good at picking up social cues. So when his buddy is feeling down, he will pick up his witty act and attempt to make them feel better. He would never admit this, but seeing someone he loves hurting feels as though he is wounded as well. He hates it.
Deflective. Poseidon is not much of a serious dog. Sure, he has his moments, but he feels vulnerable when he shows how he really feels. Often, he will put on a mask of charm and confidence and spit out some absurd comments until everyone rolls their eyes. That is when he feels safe. As contradictory as it sounds, he hates having attention directed at him during emotional times. He needs to show others that he is strong and trustworthy--that he will not crack under pressure. And when he fails at that, it angers him.
Pessimistic. Mostly due to his past, Poseidon knows it is not all sunshine and rainbows in life. There are good guys and bad guys. Though outwardly, it may appear that he does not have one dark bone in his body, that is simply not true. He does not like getting his hopes up about things mostly because he does not want to be let down. He knows what it feels like and would prefer to avoid it at all costs. Poseidon tries to keep this inside, though, so he does not influence the thoughts of others with his pessimism.
Height: 26 inches
Weight: 70 pounds
Appearance: Poseidon is quite the leggy dog for his breed. His lean figure is quite muscled, though the main focus of his frame is speed. Long yet compact paws provide the help for quick speeds and sharp turns. He is flexible to go along with this, so it is important one keeps track of him because he moves around so easily. His coat is short and sleek--often wetted down from a nearby water source. His attraction to water clearly shows most of the time. His fur is the deep color of mud or tree bark, making the white blotches along his legs, chest, and neck stand out like the stars on the inky blackness of night. Poseidon's eyes are a light amber, sort of like the thick honey that comes from a beehive. They hold a special gleam in them that makes them unique to him.
History: The fact that Poseidon was born a purebred was completely random. His mother and father had met chasing the same wretched rabbit, ramming into each other. They both happened to be of the same breed, and thought it would be a good idea to continue on the bloodlines. After a quick pregnancy, his father left. His job was finished, and he was off to live out the rest of his life. It had not mattered much, though, because his mother was very loving. Times were tough but she always seemed to have luck on her side. Poseidon was born the only boy out of four. He was actually the last born, though--a fact his sisters never let him forget. He could hold his own in the group of girls, but they often ganged up on him. He was a sensitive pup and took things to heart very easily. Soon enough he learned that it helped if he laughed with them as they poked fun, but it didn't make it hurt less. That was when he learned to master his various masks.
Because of his sisters, he grew close to his mother. Poseidon knew his mother favored him, though she hid it well. In particular, he vividly remembers the night she took him out of their makeshift den while his cluster of sisters slept inside to show him some star shapes that her own mother had taught her. They made little pictures in the sky out of the hanging balls of light for many hours, only going to rest when the sun was peaking its way into morning. Poseidon deeply cared about his mother.
A few months after, as the pointer and his sisters had just reached a two years old, he woke up to find his mother lying dead across from him, blood pooling around her neck from four little puncture marks. Poseidon looked to his sisters--one of whom still had the crimson smear of blood on her muzzle. She looked remorseful, fearful of what she had done. She said she had not meant to take it that far. But she was tired of being the least valued of the siblings. She had been talking with their mother about it when the fury reached a peak and she just acted. The four siblings stared dazed at the lifeless body of their mother. Poseidon's heart broke for her, but he decided not to act on his anger. Instead, he turned tail and left, leaving his sisters in shock.
